Website Management

Updates, backups, security, uptime checks and small changes every month, so the site keeps working while you run the business.

What website management covers

A website needs regular care the way a vehicle does. Software needs updating, backups need to run and be tested, and someone needs to notice when a form stops sending or the site goes down. Website management is that routine, done for you every month.

  • Tested updates. WordPress, the theme and plugins updated on a regular schedule, with the site checked afterward rather than updated blindly.
  • Backups you can restore. Automatic backups stored away from the server, and restores tested, because a backup that has never been restored is a hope rather than a plan.
  • Security. Monitoring, sensible hardening, removal of plugins the site no longer needs, and cleanup if something does go wrong.
  • Uptime checks. We are alerted when the site goes down, and we look into it.
  • Forms and key pages. Regular checks that contact and quote forms still deliver and that the pages that bring in business still work.
  • Small changes. Time for content edits, new pages and fixes, so updates do not wait.
  • A short report. What was updated, what was fixed and anything you should know.

The exact scope and response times are written into your plan, so you know what is included and what would be billed separately.

Sites we did not build

You do not need to have had your site built by us. Most sites can be taken on as they are. Before we start, we review the site: its software versions, plugins, backups and who controls the accounts. If something needs fixing first, such as a domain registered to a former developer, we tell you and help you fix it.

What you own

The domain, the hosting and the site stay in your name, and you keep full administrator access. We work through user accounts you can remove at any time. If you stop the plan, the site keeps running exactly as it is, and you can hand it to someone else or look after it yourself.

Is it worth paying for?

Not always. A simple site that rarely changes can be maintained by its owner in an hour or two a month, and we would rather tell you that than sell you a plan you do not need. Paying makes more sense when the site brings in a large share of your leads, takes bookings or payments, or when nobody on your team has the time. Our guide to website maintenance explains how to decide, and the website maintenance checklist shows what doing it yourself involves.

Frequently asked questions

How much does website management cost?

It depends on the site: the number of plugins, whether it takes payments or bookings, how much change time you want and how fast you need responses. We quote a fixed monthly amount after reviewing the site.

Is hosting included?

We can work with the host you already have, or recommend one. Either way, the hosting account is in your name and billed to you, so changing who manages the site never means moving it.

What happens if my site gets hacked?

Cleanup is part of every plan. We restore the site, find how the attacker got in where possible, close it and tell you what happened.

Can I cancel?

Yes. You own everything, so cancelling means removing our user accounts. Nothing has to be transferred.

Want someone to look after your site?

Send us the address of your website and what worries you about it. We will review it and reply with a plan.
